About this site

The Debugger is an independent publication launched by Gabriel Andrés Molero, and it covers tech-related developments and their intertwining with politics, especially from a European perspective, but not limited to it. The main goal of this publication is to raise awareness of the crucial relevance of technological developments that shape the political landscape in which we find ourselves. From the rise of AI-powered weapons to cyber-security threats and mass-produced misinformation, which leads to semi-programmable elections, no one can say that digital technology is not a major driving force - if not already the main one - in politics. Yet this is still somehow niche and does not often reach a wider, non-technical audience.

We aim to close this gap by providing curated, brief, and accessible articles. Stay tuned, and don't miss out!

What to find?

1) Articles

Every week, we will upload articles that cover roughly the following topics:

  • The developments of AI, with a focus on the military industry, on the one hand, and on surveillance on the other.
  • The role of Big Tech and surveillance in shaping democracies and other regimes (usually not in a fantastic way).
  • Significant cyber-security threats and other disruptions.

And, connecting all of this:

  • The European Union's technological sovereignty.

2) Monthly Newsletter

Additionally, every last Friday of the month, we will provide a debrief on the month's developments alongside an overview of what has been published here so far.

What do we stand for?

Now more than ever, it is crucial to raise awareness of the impact of tech on our lives. It is naive to consider the "digital" or the "virtual" as opposed to our everyday reality. On the contrary, we find ourselves embedded in a digital ecosystem that usually is our primary access to the world. This is not an individual matter but a political one. While it makes no sense to pretend to go back, the future is still not written, and technology, as we know, is not a monolithic, one-sided thing. It shapes us, but we can also shape it. And a way of doing this is by raising awareness and taking responsibility.

The goal of this publication is not only to report but also to advocate for privacy and digital freedom on an individual level, digital sovereignty, and responsible policy-making at a collective level, the latter of which focuses on the European Union.
